The European Commission has been suggesting it for several days: it does not like the general ban on non-essential travel decided by the Belgians in January.
But despite the exchanges with the authorities, it does not seem that she is ready to open infringement proceedings to protect free movement in the EU.

It should be noted that in the context of this ban on non-essential travel, Belgium had to notify its European peers of the introduction of controls at the internal borders of the EU.
Based on Article 28 of the Schengen Code, it is possible to reintroduce them for a period of 10 days, extendable by 20 additional days.
For Belgium, checks are therefore possible and were notified for a period up to February 25, i.e.
