When Yuen Long District Councillor Fong Ho-hsuan visited the returnees at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center last year, he smuggled a mask out of prison. He and the returnee were charged with conspiracy to carry unauthorized items out of the prison. The case is today (23 Day) In the West Kowloon Magistracy, both pleaded not guilty and were postponed until the pre-trial review on April 12.
The defendants are Fang Haoxuan (25 years old, district councilor) and Wu Weihao (39 years old, unemployed), who are also accused of conspiring to take unauthorized items out of prison.
The charge alleges that the two conspired to assist Fang Haoxuan to take a mask and packaging bag away from the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre without authorization. The relevant masks were distributed by the government to persons in custody.
The prosecution stated that eight prosecution witnesses will be called during the trial and a two-hour video will be submitted as evidence in court.
Fang Haoxuan was released on bail awaiting trial, while Wu Weihao was also charged with possession of offensive weapons in public places and possession of items with intent to destroy or damage property, and continued to be placed under the custody of the Correctional Services Department.
