HMOs began vaccinating those recovering from the corona virus yesterday (Tuesday), following a decision by the Ministry of Health on the matter.

In Israel, there are about 700,000 recovering from the virus, but only 400,000 of them will be eligible to receive the vaccine dose, after three months have passed since their recovery.

The Ministry of Health does not require recoverers to be vaccinated, nor will it impose restrictions on those who choose not to receive the vaccine.

Also, unlike vaccinated people who have not contracted the virus, recoverers who refuse to be vaccinated will not be barred from taking part in activities currently provided only to those with a green card.

Under the new guidelines, anyone who falls ill during 2020 will be eligible for a recovery certificate by the end of June 2021 - but those who choose to be vaccinated will be eligible for a vaccination certificate, which gives approval for six months after vaccination.

The firm fears the new New York strain entering the country.

Health ministry officials explained to Walla!

That the decision to vaccinate recoverers came due to concern about the new mutations, which could produce further morbidity, and after infections in the South African strain were discovered in the country.

"We have found that there are variants, such as the South African and the New York strain, that the recoverers' antibodies are weak against and they can be re-infected, so we recommend that the recoverers get vaccinated. It is of course still being tested, but that is our hypothesis," they said.

Sources in the ministry claimed that a number of studies conducted around the world have shown that giving the vaccine to recovering patients does not endanger them, and increases the viral load without experiencing severe side effects.

The firm's main concern at the moment is the new variety that has entered the country - the variant from New York.

According to an AMN report, the mutation raises concerns about the re-infection of recovering people. Yesterday, three family members of the New York strain were diagnosed in Israel, but they currently refuse to cooperate with the epidemiological investigations, and investigators are forced to track their steps to stem the strain.

Prof. Michael Edelstein, an epidemiologist from the Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University in the Galilee, conducted a study a few weeks ago on the response of recovering patients to a single vaccine dose.

The study was conducted at Ziv Hospital in Safed, among a group of 514 medical staff between the ages of 77-19.

The group tested included Jews, Druze, and Arabs, whose antibody levels were measured for 21 days after the first vaccination.

17 of them were diagnosed as positive for corona in the past, about a month to ten months before receiving the first vaccine dose.

The antibody level of all group members was tested before the vaccine, and found that those 17 who had previously been in Corona responded well to the vaccine.

The immune system of all those previously infected functioned distinctly and uniformly.

The ministry initially considered vaccinating recoverers from Moderna's vaccine stock, but after Pfizer announced that it would continue to provide Israel with vaccines that would be sufficient for the entire population, it was determined that the confusion between the two companies' vaccines could be dangerous.

Yael, a young woman from Jerusalem in her 30s, who recovered from Corona about two months ago, says that she does not intend to receive the vaccine.

"I think natural antibodies from a disease are stronger than antibodies from a vaccine. I think there is a risk when other substances are added to the body besides the antibodies of the disease," she said.

"The fact that there are excess vaccines without vaccinators does not mean that the recovering people should also be admitted to the vaccine recipients, with only a very, very small percentage of them sick again."

In contrast, 32-year-old Yoni, who recovered from the virus about six months ago, thinks it is actually right to get vaccinated.

"I did a serological test in January and I still had antibodies, but there is a danger that their effect will expire. I chose to get vaccinated because I own a business and I can not endanger my customers," he said.

June does not completely trust the vaccine, "but I have to believe in science. The lack of trust in the government after the decision-making in the last year has implied the lack of trust in vaccines, so many citizens do not come to get vaccinated."
