Italy this Monday surpassed the mournful

death toll of 100,000 in a pandemic year

, which began on February 21 of last year with the death in a hospital in the north of Adriana Trevisan, the number one dead from Corvid-19 in the country, who became the pioneer and most punished of the tragedy that quickly spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

In 24 hours there were 318 deaths, bringing the total to 100,103 deaths, with 13.02 contagious, it was officially reported.

The pandemic is now getting worse for the third time with a wave that will last at least until May and

can cause up to 30,000 more deaths

.

This reality, due to the growing dominance of the new variants of the original Covid-19 virus, spreads a wave of fear, mixed with anger and depression.

The government, which created a color palette in the peninsula to differentiate risk areas, is now being pushed to decree a "red" super quarantine for at least three weeks to contain the isolation, and

confinement of people, the social mobility that is the key to the triumph of the virus.

Those three weeks must be accompanied by the impulse of a growing mass vaccination plan, for which nothing less than the basic raw material is lacking, which are vaccines.

Until now, shipments from the laboratories have been lower than the agreements with the European Union, which centrally directs the purchases of the 27 countries that comprise it,

with 450 million inhabitants.

But it is estimated and promised that

26 million vaccines

will arrive

from the end of March

, which will add 50 million when the boreal summer arrives, in June-July.

There is no other choice but to believe and pressure so that this enormous treasure, the only direct weapon against the corona virus, will finally arrive.

The government of Prime Minister Mario Draghi has ordered a general mobilization.

He has placed in command of the emergency committee a general from the Army Corps, Pablo Figliuolo,

the best specialist in the Army in logistics.

Official optimism

Vaccination centers are scattered throughout the peninsula that will be opened as soon as possible to begin vaccinating "24 hours if necessary" to the population.

Health Minister Roberto Speranza said that

most Italians will be vaccinated and immunized by the summer

, a statement that many believe impossible given the accumulated delays.

But in the battle for mass vaccination, the new government is staking its fate.

And there is no other way to face the epidemic that does not stop growing than to

promote vaccinations

in the three weeks to a month that the superquarantine would last that would declare the entire country a "red zone".

The previous national quarantine

lasted 72 days between March and the beginning of May

2020 and gave good results.

The summer came with very low rates of infected and much less deaths.

The incidence of the Corvid-19 run, which the Italian authorities are unable to tame, has reached 7.6 per million inhabitants.

No more time can be wasted.

The average number of deaths

has not dropped below 300 daily deaths

even before the third wave arrived, which can raise the number to more than 500 per day to reach a thousand deaths at the peak of the pandemic, as it already happened in the previous phases.

The epidemic runs thanks to the multiplication of infections by variants such as the English one, which led Great Britain to consummate the record figure of 124 thousand deaths.

But Prime Minister Boris Johnson achieved enormous success with his

massive vaccination campaign

that has already punctured 24 million Britons in the arm with the saving dose, achieving a spectacular decrease in deaths.

In Italy there are six regions, which are Lombardy (Milan) Campania (Naples), Piedmont (Turin), Emilia Romagna (Bologna), Friuli and Marche that register more than 250 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants in a week, terror figures.

In the first place, this misfortune has led to a generalized closure of schools, which naturally if there is a superquarantine

will become total

, from kindergarten to primary, secondary and university.

In any case, it is estimated that with the restriction measures that are being adopted these days, around 9 students out of 10 will be confined in Distance Learning, which will remove them from the classrooms to force them to follow classes online.

The most feared thermometer of the pressure of the pandemic on the national hospital system

is the growth of patients in the Covid-19 sick pavilions

, which reach 23,749 and in intensive care, which add up to 2605, with a constant increase.

The occupancy of beds is at the limit and in a short time the danger of a collapse can be reached, which is already seen in Naples and in areas of southern Italy with fragile hospital systems.

To stop this lethal process for public health, the only alternative is the combination of mass vaccination against the corona virus and a super quarantine that paralyzes the movements of people throughout the country, naturally with serious consequences for economic and social activity.

The Scientific Technical Committee that advises the government argues with almost desperation

the need to "shut everything down

."

The government continues to reinforce the restriction measures, but is not yet encouraged to take the great step of quarantine, due to the economic and social problems that would be added to those already past and that have cost a loss of 10% of the national wealth.
