In the video: Documentation from an Iranian Mamel of the Israeli-owned ship that was hit by an explosion in the Gulf of Oman

Senior members of the defense establishment said in closed discussions in recent days that the maritime tensions with Iran should be calmed down, and recommended that they refrain from responding to its aggression, which they said was carried out on the civilian level against Israeli-owned vessels.

This comes amid reports that Israel is responsible for an attack on an Iranian ship this week as well as the mysterious explosion on an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman.

One source said that at a time when there is a new administration in the United States formulating policies, and on the other hand negotiating with Tehran over the nuclear deal, it is not right to act aggressively against Iran.

"It's time to calm down at this stage even though they were operating in civilian space and it's very serious," the same source said.

According to them, the sea route from Asia to Israel is particularly sensitive in the Egyptian region of Hormuz, which separates the Persian Gulf from the Gulf of Oman, and is defined as an area where Iranian responses have been taking place in the last decade, and that reality could easily deteriorate.

Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi supports an approach that seeks to calm the developing naval tension.

Discussions in the defense establishment are taking place as in the last two weeks there have been exchanges of accusations between the countries about attacks against cargo ships in the Gulf and the Mediterranean.

A source in the investigation team in Iran said today that Israel is apparently responsible for the attack on the ship Shehar-a-Kard that occurred last Wednesday, while it was in the Mediterranean waters on its way to Europe.

Israel has not yet commented on the incident.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials accused Iran of being responsible for an explosion on a ship owned by Israeli businessman Rami Unger while sailing in the Gulf of Oman.

The incident took place about two weeks ago and Tehran denies that it is connected to the incident.

In addition, on Thursday the Wall Street Journal revealed a secret naval front that Jerusalem has been running against Tehran since 2019. According to the report, Israel attacked at least 12 Iranian ships, including last week near Lebanon, or those that transferred oil or weapons from Iran to Syria, bypassing sanctions The Americans.

Defense Minister Bnei Gantz confirmed that Israel was working to thwart Iran's suspicious movements at sea, but declined to comment on the latest incident.

"We are working to disrupt weapons transfers from Iran and things related to weapons and military capabilities in the air at sea and on land," Ganz said.

"I do not say whether we did anything or did not do anything. We have a duty to act against it and we will continue to do so. Israel is not responsible for the oil spill that led to the tar disaster on the beaches."
