The epidemic has entangled Hong Kong for more than a year, and the tourism industry has almost shut down. Last month, there were only 5,495 visitors to Hong Kong, a year-on-year decrease of 97.2%.

The Tourism Board stated that in the same period last year in Hong Kong, the epidemic has begun to affect tourism activities. The number of visitors to Hong Kong fell from 3.2 million in January to 200,000 in February. As the base of the number of visitors in the same period last year has fallen, it is expected that the number of visitors will be in the next few months. The year-on-year decline may narrow.

The Chairman of the Tourism Board, Peng Yaojia, said that he welcomes the government's earlier announcement that it will include the tourism industry practitioners in the priority group for new crown vaccination. It also announced today that it will lower the age threshold for the new crown vaccination plan.

He said that controlling the epidemic as soon as possible is the key to resuming inbound and outbound tourism in Hong Kong and other regions. Therefore, he urged practitioners in tourism and related industries to actively participate in the vaccination plan and continue to implement anti-epidemic measures.
