Munich Airport is also entering electromobility for aircraft de-icers.
Airport - The first vehicle, an "Elephant e-BETA" from the Danish manufacturer Vestergaard, has now started its service at the runway heads.
The spray arms and nozzles driven by electric motors de-icing the aircraft almost silently, reports the FMG.
The centerpiece is a large lithium-ion battery pack that enables around ten to 15 aircraft to be electrically de-iced.
This means that the vehicle can run for around two to three hours without recharging.
The vehicle drives to the de-icing areas with a conventional diesel engine and can therefore be used flexibly. The engine is switched off on site and electrical de-icing begins. Trial operation is still running at the moment. Compared to conventional de-icing vehicles, up to 87 percent of the CO2 emissions caused by the vehicle can be avoided with the electric version. ham
