The defendant Guo Zixuan (25 years old), a warehouse clerk, was accused of falsely claiming that he would purchase masks on the website from January 20 to 31, 2020, and defrauding the purchasers of paying him a total of 120,000 yuan.
The victim transferred the funds as instructed and was unable to contact the defendant afterwards
The facts of the case allege that the defendant posted an advertisement selling surgical masks on the online sales platform "Carousell" from January 20 to 31 last year. 80 victims between the ages of 16 and 50 ordered masks from the defendant and transferred 50 to 50 according to the instructions. 3964 yuan.
The defendant notified 80 victims to pick up the goods at Mong Kok Station on January 31 last year, but the defendant could not be contacted that day. He did not show up at Mong Kok Station. Some of the victims called the police on the same day.
The defendant was arrested on February 2 last year. Under caution, he confessed: "Ah Sir, it was me who did it. It was me, er, who left the class with money." The police found 35,000 yuan in fraud on him.
The defendant also claimed that he saw a surge in demand for masks, so he falsely claimed that there was a supply of goods, and asked the buyer to deposit the money into the bank account of his ex-girlfriend, and that he had used 30,000 yuan to defraud him to "play the phone."
