Caregivers denounce the many potential drifts of the text debated this Thursday in the National Assembly.

"I never deliberately provoke death."

Despite the ban on killing formulated in the Hippocratic Oath, doctors would be on the front line if the bill guaranteeing

"a free and chosen end of life",

examined this Thursday in the National Assembly, was adopted.

Transgression of a prohibition, fear of abandoning the accompaniment of the sick, concerns about the excesses of a "right to die" ... The fears expressed by caregivers are numerous.

Starting with those in the field of palliative care, which is trying to develop a completely different approach to end-of-life in France, based on pain relief and personalized support for patients.

"Why should we change the law when palliative care is not yet widespread enough and there are still services where therapeutic relentlessness is daily?"

asks Jean-Marie Gomas, doctor and co-founder of the French Society for Support and Palliative Care (SFAP).
