The theft of an industrial equipment that has a radioactive source has put eight Mexican states and the country's capital on alert, the National Nuclear Safety and Safeguards Commission (CNSNS) reported this Sunday in a statement.
According to the text, the stolen equipment could be located, in addition to Mexico City, in the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Querétaro, Michoacán, Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala.
According to the commission, the industrial device "was stolen with violence" along with a Toyota vehicle this Sunday on the road at the entrance to the municipality of Teoloyucan, in the state of Mexico.

The stolen machine is an industrial radiography equipment and said container houses a radioactive source of iridium with an activity of 68.89 Curies, the entity explained.
"If the radioactive source is extracted from its container, is manipulated or has direct contact with it for a few minutes to hours, it can cause permanent injuries," the CNSNS statement said.

He added: "If you stay in direct contact with the source for hours or days, its effects can be deadly."
The Commission said that it is working with the Government of the state of Mexico, federal agencies and the Civil Protection units of the other regions to find the stolen device.
Until this Sunday, the authorities had not reported on suspected suspects and the state's Public Security Secretariat had not made a public statement about the robbery.
