It is now official: there will be no foreign soldiers left in Afghanistan after September 11.
The announcement by US President Joe Biden on April 14 of the final timetable for the withdrawal of US troops was followed on the same day by a NATO statement affirming that its "
Resolute Support"
mission
, which supports the Afghan army and police, would be definitively closed "
within a few months".

The timetable differs a little from that set by the agreement signed in February 2020 between the Trump administration and the Taliban, which provided for a total withdrawal of foreign troops before May 1.
Biden, for his part, announces that the withdrawal will be started on that date, and concluded exactly 20 years after the New York attack which spawned the "
war against terrorism
".
The wording may sound strange: The withdrawal process, which began under the Trump administration, is still ongoing, and the United States has already repatriated the majority of its troops.
