Almost three years before the opening of the Bavarian State Garden Show in Kirchheim on May 15, 2024, the earthworks will begin today, Monday, April 26.

- After the preparatory measures at the beginning of February, the earthworks on the more than ten hectare large, future local park area between the districts of Kirchheim and Heimstetten will begin on Monday, reports Kirchheim 20224 GmbH.
To beautify the site fences, children and young people from Kirchheim and Heimstetten painted many colorful pictures.
Archaeologists examine the construction site
During the earthworks, the so-called topsoil is completely removed once under archaeological supervision.
Possible later excavations will then take place on the basis of the findings.
A munitions sounding has already taken place in advance.
Here, data is determined in the form of a magnetic resonance image, which allows conclusions to be drawn about metallic objects in the ground.
After all, the settlement history of the municipality of Kirchheim goes back around 4500 years.
Many finds on the property for the new high school
For this reason, important archaeological finds have been brought to light again and again in recent years during various construction projects.
In 2019, for example, archaeologists uncovered a 2000-year-old Celtic settlement under the construction site of the new grammar school on Heimstettner Strasse, which consisted of around 80 houses and was thus probably one of the largest settlements in southern Germany at that time.
During excavations in the summer of 2020, a Roman well was discovered, the wood of which has been preserved at a depth of around five meters for over 1500 years.
Pictures of children adorn the construction fences
To secure the earthworks, construction fences will gradually be erected around the future spheres of “water” and “meadow” from today.
Thanks to the support of the children and adolescents in Kirchheim, the construction fences will become a real eye-catcher: Since the beginning of March, pictures for the state horticultural show have been painted in daycare and kindergarten groups, in the midday care, in the after-school care center or in the JUZ youth center.
These are digitized and printed on weatherproof construction fence banners.
Attached to the site fences, they bring more and more color to the future grounds of the State Garden Show.
