The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, called on the Israeli occupation entity to abide by international laws and stop the demolition and evacuation activities in occupied Jerusalem.
The Israeli occupation forces have stepped up their Judaization steps in occupied Jerusalem, the latest of which was the attempt to evacuate dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, with the aim of giving them to settlers.
In a statement issued yesterday by Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric and reported on the United Nations website, the Secretary-General expressed his deep concern about what is happening in occupied East Jerusalem, as well as the possibility of Palestinian families being evicted from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhood of the city.
Guterres called on the Israeli occupation authorities to "stop the demolitions and evictions in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law."
Guterres urged "adherence to and respect for the status quo in the holy places."
In this context, the UN Security Council will discuss in a special session today the situation in East Jerusalem and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and diplomats said that nearly two-thirds of the 15 member states of the Council requested the convening of this session, namely Tunisia, Ireland, China, Estonia, France, Norway, Niger, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines and Vietnam.
The occupation forces continue their aggressive practices against the Palestinians by attacking them in their cities and villages with the aim of displacing them, seizing their lands and judaizing them.
