FW parliamentary group leader and entrepreneur Johann Fehlberger did the only right thing with his withdrawal from the development plan in Pretzen. His motion would have had no chance in the city council. This has already been shown in the preliminary discussion in the committee. Now he is sparing his colleagues and, above all, his own group from a painful debate.
Fehlberger should not be able to avoid a partial dismantling of his blackened hall. However, he also deserves to be spared - with the penalty payment, which can amount to up to 50,000 euros. Most of the black buildings do not make it to the public. And if it does, then not with the name of the client. Fehlberger was unlucky enough to be a public figure as a city councilor. That's why he deserves a significant discount on the penalty. The entrepreneur's reputation has been seriously damaged by the debate. That has to be offset.
And when Fehlberger has restored a legally compliant condition, the way must remain open to him to start expanding his business again at some point - with a development plan procedure.
As a city council, Fehlberger has special standards.
But he must not be placed in a worse position than others.
Nevertheless, there remains a political damage to the land, especially among the FW.
It was an unforgivable mistake that his group colleagues wanted to push the project through.
This is especially true for Second Mayor Petra Bauernfeind.
Facing head-on against the administration in this office was a mistake that will linger on her for a long time.
