In Great Britain, the government has drastically tightened corona rules in individual districts.

However, without an announcement, as reported by the British media.

That causes irritation.

London - As reported by the BBC, the UK government has updated the corona rules in eight districts.

Accordingly, the people there are called on not to leave their districts, to keep a distance of two meters from others and not to meet indoors.

Great Britain: Corona mutation B.1.617.2 is spreading rapidly

The areas are particularly badly affected by the Indian coronavirus variant. The list includes areas in the north-west of the country, in Central England and also a district of London. The district of Bolton in the Greater Manchester area is hardest hit. There, around 450 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were recently registered within seven days. Experts assume that the so-called Indian variant B.1.617.2 * spreads faster than the British corona mutant B.1.1.7 * that has prevailed so far.

According to the BBC, the “advice” was published online on Friday without prior notice.

Some local authorities would not have known about this until Monday if they had not been informed of the change.

Labor MP for Bolton South West Yasmin Qureshi was surprised by the change in the rules of distance.

"She (the government) is making such an important announcement and doesn't even have the decency to tell us or the citizens," she told the BBC.

Many people would have likely made travel plans for the coming weekend, Qureshi continued.

State Secretary for Labor and Pensions, Thérèse Coffey, defended the government's actions on Tuesday.

The rules were updated as soon as the underlying data were available, said the conservative minister.

A Downing Street source denied it was a secret local lockdown, the BBC reported.

All areas had been informed of the advice.

Coronavirus in Great Britain - Out of lockdown since May 17th

In large parts of the United Kingdom, the corona rules have recently been relaxed significantly.

Theaters, museums, restaurants and bars can once again receive guests indoors.

International travel is also partially allowed again.

The Federal Government and the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) have designated Great Britain as a virus variant area in the course of the corona pandemic. Since Sunday, May 23rd, there have been severe restrictions on entering Germany. Austria imposes a landing ban for direct flights from Great Britain. It should come into force on June 1st.
