The left-liberal newspaper »Haaretz« published pictures of 67 Palestinian children and young people who were killed in the most recent armed conflict just a week after the ceasefire in the Gaza conflict.
"That is the price of war," wrote the Israeli newspaper next to the pictures on its front page.
In collaboration with the New York Times, the paper published photos, ages and stories of victims aged six months to 17 years.
After eleven days of bloody clashes, Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas, which ruled the Gaza Strip, had reached an agreement on a ceasefire, mediated by Egypt. This came into force on Friday night. The latest escalation followed clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and in the Arab-dominated east of the city. Israel is planning new settlements there, and the district is sacred to Muslims.
Hamas had issued an ultimatum to Israel to withdraw the security forces from the Temple Mount, among other things. When Israel failed to comply, Palestinian militants fired rockets at Jerusalem on May 10. In the course of the conflict there were a total of more than 4,360. 13 people were killed in Israel, including a five-year-old and a 16-year-old. Israel responded with massive attacks in the coastal area. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, a total of 254 Palestinians were killed, around a quarter of them minors.
According to the Israeli army, children in the Gaza Strip were also killed by misdirected missiles by Palestinian militants.
She also accuses Hamas of deliberately using civilians as human shields.
According to the Israeli military, more than 200 of those killed were militant fighters.
