The Ocean Park Conservation Fund of Hong Kong stated that it was notified yesterday (17) to follow up a case of cetacean discovery, the 23rd case this year.
This case was a live finding, but the stranded whale was confirmed dead after inspection. The preliminary results showed signs of internal hemorrhage and pneumonia in the right brain of the whale.
The cause of death needs laboratory analysis
The location of the discovery this time is in Da Long East Bay, Sai Kung. The species is still to be confirmed. It may be a small sperm whale or a dwarf sperm whale, about 2 meters in length, and a female sex.
The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund stated that after receiving the notice, it has joined the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Ocean Park veterinarian and animal care staff to follow up. However, the stranded whale has been confirmed dead after inspection.
The Conservation Fund brought the whale carcass back to the Ocean Park last night for an autopsy this morning.
Preliminary results showed signs of internal hemorrhage and pneumonia in the right brain of the whale, but the exact cause of death requires further testing and analysis.
