The DB wants to renovate an outdated level crossing in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn.

Spicy: But it does not guarantee that the facility will be preserved if nothing comes of the renovation.

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn

- The level crossing on the Hinterer Altlaufweg in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn no longer meets current safety standards.

The Deutsche Bahn (DB) has therefore informed the community that it wants to renew the facility, which is located directly at the entrance to the "Am Hart" settlement.

However, DB does not guarantee that the transition will actually be maintained.

Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD) now presented the planning status of DB Netz AG to the members of the building committee.

As the town hall chief explained, according to the railway, the renovation is necessary to make the transition safe and fail-safe.

The DB is a thorn in the side of the crossroads

A thorn in the side of the company is therefore the crossing area east of the railroad tracks.

There the Banaterweg joins the Hinterer Altlaufweg.

The crossing is too close to the open-air system for the railway.

Because so that vehicles can smoothly pass or evacuate the crossing even when there are oncoming traffic, space is required.

And that is not the case due to the layout of the road.

“In the area of the tracks there must not be any stationary road user at any time,” explains a DB spokeswoman when asked by Merkur.

For this reason, the road layout is to be adapted and a so-called drag curve built.

They ensure the necessary clearance area of 27 meters between the intersection and the transition.

In order to swivel the road layout slightly, the DB has to fall back on the surrounding properties.

"We don't know what legal consequences that would have"

The car parking spaces created by the community near the level crossing and the bicycle parking spaces are not affected by the conversion, explained Konwitschny when asked by Janine Schneider (Greens).

However, the plans are still in the initial phase, emphasized the mayor.

So the company still has to talk to the affected property owners - including the municipality itself.

Roland Spingler (CSU) wanted to know whether the continued existence of the level crossing is at risk if, for whatever reason, no solution can be found.

Konwitschny could not answer this question.

"We don't know what the legal consequences would be," she said and promised that the administration would approach DB again on this issue.

No clear yes or no

When asked whether it could happen that the transition will be closed forever, there is no clear yes or no from the company.

"The aim is to ensure a safe crossing for all road users," says the DB spokeswoman.

The company is currently not aware of any reasons "that prevent the implementation of the renewal measures".

Basically, in coordination with the road construction authorities, a level crossing can also be closed, abandoned or removed by another construction measure such as an overpass or underpass, the railway spokeswoman added.

"An exchange of the existing system with adaptation of the traffic route is currently being advised."

Should the level crossing be closed, it would be fatal for the residents of the “Am Hart” estate.

Because vehicles can only enter the settlement via the Hinterer Altlaufweg.

The work is to begin - the municipality was informed - in the spring of 2025. The railway is assuming a construction period of around six months.

According to Konwitschny, it is not planned that the level crossing will be rebuilt for the double-track expansion of the line.

Another indication that the expansion of the S-7 line is still a long way off.
