The workshops of the Waterwheels Department in the Hama City Council carried out the restoration and rehabilitation of the green waterwheel at the Bab al-Nahr site and return it to work and turn again, as part of the city council’s plan to complete the maintenance of the waterwheels erected on the Orontes River.
Ahed Sab’ al-Arab, director of the Waterwheels Department, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the rehabilitation works of the 17.5-meter waterwheel included parts of the waterwheel that were subjected to wear and tear as a result of weather factors, as the axle, cuff, sashes, sticks, and the outer and inner circles, in addition to the wheel wreath, were replaced, pointing out that the works took more than For 40 days, various types of wood were used in the manufacture and rehabilitation of the waterwheel, such as oak, walnut, pine and eucalyptus.
He pointed out that these works were carried out by specialized workshops, including the design and implementation of wooden models that match the worn pieces of the same length and size, and treated with insulating materials to increase their durability and resistance to weather changes, and then installed them on the body of the waterwheel in a serial and regular manner.
