Shortly before the release of the new MagSafe battery packs, Apple released the new iOS 14.7 update.
The most important new feature for iPad, iPhone and Co. is likely to be the numerous bug fixes.

Before the iOS 15 version, eagerly awaited by Apple users, can be downloaded to the end device in autumn, users have to be content with a smaller update.
The most important part of the new update is the support for the new MagSafe battery packs for the iPhone 12. The external battery packs are attached to the back of the current iPhones with a magnet so that they can be charged wirelessly if the battery runs out while on the move. With the new update, the MagSafe system is now also supported by the iPhone's operating system. The MagSafe battery packs are currently only available for the latest iPhone generation 12.
In addition to portable battery charging, the new update will probably also bring so-called wireless reverse charging.
This means that after the software update, the accessories can be charged wirelessly via the iPhone for the first time.
However, the cell phone must be connected to the power supply by cable.
The iOS 15 update must show whether this restriction will be resolved in the future.
Some Android devices, for example the Pixel 5 from Google or the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, already have this wireless function.

HomePod timer:
The Home app can now manage timers for the HomePod smart speaker.
Weather app:
iOS now provides air quality information for some countries.
Germany is not there, but Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea and Spain.
Display:
Up to now, errors could occur when rendering e-mails on Braille displays.
Podcasts:
In the Podcasts library, you can now either view all programs or only those that you follow.
Warning notice:
With the iPhone 11 it could happen that a note about battery maintenance suddenly disappeared, with this update the problem has been resolved.
Security updates:
Security updates are also distributed with iOS 14.7.
No details are currently given in Apple's overview, but these should come soon.
In addition to the current iOS version 14.7, Apple is currently also making the updates tvOS 14.7 and watchOS 7.6 available for installation.
All iPhone models that previously ran iOS 14 are supported.
The update has been announced for the iPad, but was not yet ready for installation.
