Five years ago, the last of the Hedwig sisters from Böbing said goodbye.

After kindergarten, they are now handing over the children's home to new hands.

The carrier is well known in the region: Regens Wagner Rottenbuch is to continue the work.

Böbing

- No, it shouldn't be a quick shot. The children's home in Böbing was too important for the Hedwig sisters. They put a lot of thought into who could keep the facility running. “It should have hands and feet, and it should be carried on in accordance with your wishes,” says Sabine Seel, director of the St. Hedwig children's home. And the right carrier has now been found: Regens Wagner Rottenbuch will take over on September 1st.

“It couldn't have gone better,” says Seel.

Not much will change for them, all 24 employees will be taken over.

Seel is convinced that “we can only benefit” from a large sponsor like the Regens Wagner Foundation, which is also on site.

The foundation has 14 regional centers with more than 60 locations in Bavaria.

In Rottenbuch it offers, among other things, training and support centers as well as housing options, in Peißenberg it has offers for young adults and a support center.

Hedwig sisters worked in Böbing for 72 years

It is not easy for the Hedwig sisters to give up the children's home, says Seel. “It's a path of reason.” The women had been anchored in Böbing for 72 years. In 1949 they opened the children's home, and in 1951 also a kindergarten group. In 2013 they leased the day care center to the community, which bought the facility in 2018. The last Hedwig sister Böbing left with sister Lucia in 2016 and moved to Berlin. At that time she handed over the responsibility to Seel, the first secular director of the children's home. The St. Hedwig Association remained as the sponsor. That is changing now.

Regens Wagner expects "valuable connections and collaborations, among other things in educational and organizational matters," due to the spatial proximity to Rottenbuch, according to a press release.

When signing the contract, Rainer Remmele, Spiritual Director of the Regens Wagner Foundations, emphasized: “With our 'Yes!'

In order to take over, we want to consciously take responsibility for accompanying children and young people in challenging life situations here in the region. "

Harmonious change

According to Achim Gerbig, general manager in Rottenbuch, the Hedwig sisters approached the foundation in January.

“They asked us if we could continue the work,” he recalls.

The decision was relatively easy and quick.

There are purely organizational reasons for the change to take place on September 1st.

This month the summer vacation ends and a new school year begins.

“It's a harmonious change,” says Gerbig.

It shouldn't make itself felt much.

"Everything is going as before."

According to Seel, that was exactly what was important to the Hedwig Sisters: They were happy to have found a Catholic sponsor in the foundation.

With the children's home, he gets a facility that has space for 18 children and adolescents.

These come from the district, but also from other regions.

The motto of the house is "Here I can grow". The home offers individual support programs for children and young people. In addition, the focus is on living and learning in a group. With Regens Wagner, a carrier has now been found whose motto harmonizes perfectly: "... I find my way".
