(CNN) -
Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) tennis player Daniil Medvedev apparently struggled with the Tokyo heat on Wednesday during his singles match against Fabio Fognini.
When asked by the central judge, Carlos Ramos, if he could continue playing, Medvedev replied: "I am a fighter, I will finish the match, but I could die," he said.
"If I die, will the ITF take responsibility?"

After the match, Medvedev said that he could not breathe properly.
“Even from the first set, I didn't feel good enough with my breathing.
So I called the physical therapist.
I felt like my diaphragm had become blocked.
I couldn't breathe properly.
I think it was the wettest day we've had so far, "Medvedev said in comments posted by Tokyo 2020.

“Then in the second set, I just had darkness in my eyes, as if between each point I didn't know what to do to feel better.
I was leaning over and couldn't catch my breath.
I was ready to hit the court. "
Tokyo has seen temperatures rise during the Games, reaching highs over the weekend and hovering around 32 degrees Celsius throughout the week.
