There is still a lot to do in Feldafing when it comes to accessibility - this was the result of an inspection with the district's disability officer.

Money is there.

Feldafing

- Feldafing wants to become handicapped friendly - no easy undertaking for those responsible in the hilly lake community. The councilors Nandl Schultheiß (CSU) and Sibylle Härtl (Greens) gave the first impetus. In the autumn of last year they suggested that the local council should put an annual budget of 25,000 euros in the local council until it was easier for senior citizens and people with disabilities to cross the streets by lowering curbs. This money is available for the first time in the budget for the current year. At the suggestion of the local politicians, an on-site inspection took place under the motto “Livable community for everyone”. It is an action within the framework of the action plan for people with disabilities drawn up by the district.

In Feldafing there are other problems than just lowering curbs, admitted Mayor Bernhard Sontheim: "I have just heard from a wheelchair user that the door to the town hall is too difficult for people with the same handicap to open." According to Maximilian Mayer, the district's disability officer, on-site inspections have identified four focal points: Generational living environment (e.g. barrier-free sidewalks), mobility (blind traffic lights, car parking spaces, access to public buildings), supply options (barrier-free access) and security (e.g. securing construction sites , illuminated paths, stops). Local councils took part in the inspection, people of almost all ages as well as wheelchair users Wolfgang Böhm and Ursula Kreitl-Ebel,who had taken her husband's rollator with her.

The elderly woman didn't have to walk far to find hurdles - from the town hall to Bahnhofstrasse. Most stores can only be accessed via at least one step. An insurmountable obstacle for unaccompanied wheelchair users, at least a difficulty for rollator users. The former councilor Vera Schmid suggested encouraging business people to equip the entrance area with ramps. When it comes to assisted living, it became clear that handicapped-friendly people might not have top priority when planning buildings. The pharmacy across the street can only be reached by residents via detours. Because there are no lowered curbs for a direct route there. That should change, promised Markus Niebler from the building authority. In the program for lowering the curbs, this area is high on the list of priorities.

At the suggestion of the group, curbs to be lowered are to be equipped with indicators for the visually impaired. In order to finance this additional effort, the annual budget of 25,000 euros could be increased, promised Mayor Sontheim. The municipal administration also wants to implement the advice from wheelchair user Böhm to make disabled parking spaces better recognizable. Speaking of signage: For passers-by with walking aids or with prams, it is impossible to switch from the west side of Bahnhofstrasse to the opposite and higher walkway, for example to get to the churches. This is only possible via stairs. Corresponding signs should point to the entrances from the south and north.

Sibylle Härtl, co-initiator of the on-site visit, said she was more than satisfied: “There is a great willingness in the municipal administration to implement measures to make it easier for the disabled. It is planned to draw up a list of priorities. "
