Being vaccinated against covid-19 can allow you to enter a variety of places. These are some apps to check your vaccination status.

(CNN) -

Covid-19 vaccination is increasingly becoming the ticket to entry to restaurants, gyms, and indoor shows - or all of the above - if you're a New York City resident.

Instead of losing your vaccination card, you can save your vaccination status on your phone to use as evidence to enter public spaces. You have some options to confirm your vaccination status, from scannable QR codes, to documents that live among your digital files, versions of “digital passports” that can give you entry to places that only allow vaccinated people to enter.

Here's how you can keep your vaccination record on your phone so your little CDC-issued vaccination card can safely stay in the safety of your home.

Use the authorized provider in your state

Some states allow their residents to access the digital immunization record: Arizona, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Dakota, Washington and West Virginia, as well as the city of Washington, use the free MyIR Mobile service;

Californians can visit myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov to access their records, and New Yorkers can use the Excelsior Pass app, which we'll use as an example.

To use Excelsior Pass:

  • Enter your personal information at epass.ny.gov.

  • Once you have verified your identity, you will have access to a pass with a unique QR code for you.

You can add this digital pass to the Excelsior Pass app, available for iPhone and Android, or print it and take it as a physical copy.

  • California Excelsior Pass and My Vaccine Record users will receive a QR code that businesses can scan to confirm they are vaccinated against COVID-19.

But both services are specific to their states, that is, if you did not get vaccinated in California or New York, then you will not be able to access your information from these applications.

  • Use a trusted app

Several applications that are already in use can save your vaccination record, for example those used to enter through airport security or sporting events.

Insider proposes Clear, CommonPass, and VeriFly as reputable apps that can store this information (we'll use Clear as an example, below).

Apps like Clear rely on biometric data - that is, detailed scans of your face - to verify information, so standard privacy concerns apply.

To upload your vaccination card to Clear:

  • You must first create a free account on Clear, if you don't already have one.

    Enter your email.

The app will ask for a photo ID and then scan your face.

Once you have verified your identity, create your password and enter the application.

  • In the main menu of the app, click on the option "Add your Covid-19 vaccination". There are several ways to do this: you can scan your card directly or add your code QR if you live in California or New York; you can access with a Walmart account if you got vaccinated at a supermarket pharmacy or you can log in with your account from some health service providers.

  • If you are going to scan your vaccination card, face it within the margins you see on the screen.

Once you take the photo, the app will ask you to fill in the information about the name of the vaccine you received, the dates of your doses and the location where you were vaccinated.

  • Once you enter the information, the app will generate a scannable QR code to check your vaccination status.

  • Scan your card with your phone

suggests scanning your vaccination card with your phone's camera.

IPhone and Android devices have scanning capabilities.

    IPhone users

can scan their card directly, without downloading an app.

  • Open the Notes app.

  • Create a new note and title it "Covid-19 Vaccine" so that it is easy to find.

  • Under the title, click on the camera icon.

A pop up menu will appear, select "scan document".

  • Position your camera over the front of your vaccination card until it is properly focused and scans the image, then click the button at the bottom center of the screen to capture the image.

  • Your iPhone should recognize the scanned document as your vaccination card.

The note will be saved automatically.

    Android users

    require downloading Google Drive.

(IPhone users can also use the Google Drive app, if they have it.)

  • Open Google Drive.

  • Touch the "add" symbol and then the camera icon to scan.

  • Position your camera over your vaccination card until it focuses correctly and scans the image.

  • Save your document by clicking on the dove icon.

  • Digital vaccination records could be the most convenient way to check your covid-19 vaccination status in the future, and your ticket back to normalcy.
