Thousands of Israelis have received German citizenship over the years. This gave them the automatic right to obtain a German passport and also enjoy many benefits, which are only available to German citizens or EU citizens, such as residence and work permits and opening businesses all over Europe, almost zero tuition academic studies in Germany and very significant or even no restrictions on receiving Entry, work and residence permits in the United States and other Anglo-Saxon countries.

On the other hand, thousands of Israelis could have obtained German citizenship had it not been for various regulations in Germany or historical events that prevented them from doing so. For example, there are countless cases in which only those born from a certain date received or could have received a German passport, while their brother / sister and their descendants were refused. Children born to a mother who had already received German citizenship were not eligible to receive German citizenship if their date of birth is from the day set out in German regulations. A mother who held German citizenship and married before the enactment of Nazi law, she lost her German citizenship and so did all her children and grandchildren.

Recently, to Germany Judgment of the High Court and enacted regulations that make it easy to accept German citizenship, a person who is a descendant of German, which his German citizenship was revoked due to Nazi persecution.

Below is a brief overview of the easing:

1. In the past, only those who are born until 04/01/1953 Love Who had German citizenship at the time, he and his descendants had a chance to obtain a German passport. After that date, the descendant can obtain a German passport, even if his mother was German, i.e. born (no matter where) to a German father. In

light of recent regulations in Germany, even those born before April 1953 Lam, whose German citizenship had been revoked following the Nazi racial laws, he could get German citizenship.

2. In the past, anyone born before 1993 outside the framework of marriage, could obtain German citizenship only if his mother was German. now, entitlement exists, even if the father was German.

Previously, a child born in the period between 01.04.1953 and 31.12.1974 as part of a marriage to a mother holding German citizenship, will be entitled to receive German citizenship and / or passport, only if his mother notified the embassy by 31.12.1977 of the child's birth.

The circle of those entitled has now been expanded, so that even if the mother has not declared the birth of the child, he / she will be entitled to German citizenship.

The applicant may be required to present minimal command of the German language.

There are a number of other bills in the German parliament, which will further expand the circle of those entitled.

These bills have not yet been formulated into a binding law, but the direction is very positive.
