Why was the platform in Peißenberg not made barrier-free during previous construction work? Amazement at the course of action

Two years ago, the Peißenberg train station was converted to an electronic signal box and completely renovated.

Only recently, Deutsche Bahn started to make the platform barrier-free.

Not only Manfred Lutz from Peißenberg wonders why the work was not done in one go.

Peißenberg -

In the summer of 2019, the Peißenbergers were sorely tried.

At first there were too few train drivers on the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB), which uses its trains on the route between Augsburg and Schongau.

Especially at the Pfaffenwinkelbahn, rows of trains were canceled.

In the best case scenario, rail travelers could switch to buses.

Sometimes bad scenes took place between outraged passengers - or people who would have liked to become passengers - and the train staff.

Then the construction work began on schedule for the conversion of the Peißenberg train station from a manually to an electronically operated signal box.

And again no trains went to and from the Peißenberg station.

Instead, there was rail replacement traffic in buses.

Train traffic stopped again - rail replacement traffic

Actually, the construction work, in which in addition to the conversion to an electronic signal box, level crossings that were not barred before, were equipped with barriers and the platforms in Peißenberg were paved and renewed, should have been completed at the beginning of the school year.

But buses continued to run instead of trains.

Finally, the construction work was completed and it went relatively smoothly - apart from the surprise of the train passengers that the announced time savings on the route between Schongau and Weilheim cannot be clearly felt.

Now the situation has changed again.

As reported, the expansion of the Peißenberg Nord and Peißenberg, Hohenpeißenberg, Peiting Nord and Peiting Ost train stations recently began.

The platforms are to be raised so that one can steplessly board the trains of the Pfaffenwinkelbahn.

To do this, train traffic must be stopped again and buses used.

The question arises as to why this barrier-free expansion of the platforms was not carried out two years ago.

Manfred Lutz from Peißenberg asked the same question and turned to the local newspaper: “Why didn't they build in Peißenberg in such a way that they fit right away?” He asked.

That's what Deutsche Bahn says about the allegations

When asked by Deutsche Bahn, a company spokesman said: During the construction work two years ago, the barrier-free expansion had been considered.

The railway spokesman wrote in an e-mail: "During the previous renovation of the Peißenberg station, Deutsche Bahn produced what is known as an interim construction stage and thus already considered the subsequent barrier-free expansion." been.

The construction work two years ago cost around 7.8 million euros, the current work is estimated at 13 million euros.
