Tokyo-Sana

With the participation of the Syrian team for special sports, the Paralympic Games opened today in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, which will continue until the fifth of next September.

About 4,400 athletes participate in the Paralympics and compete in 22 sports, including two new types, badminton and taekwondo, while most other sports are common to the Olympics and Paralympics, such as athletics and swimming.

The Paralympic Games were postponed for a year under strict restrictions to avoid an outbreak of the Corona virus, and the Japanese capital's embrace of it comes two weeks after it successfully hosted the 2020 Summer Olympics.

And the Japanese authorities banned the attendance of fans at the Paralympic Games, as the country records record numbers of infections with the Corona virus, despite strict measures and a state of emergency in several areas of it.

Our team’s delegation to participate in these games includes Abdel Nasser Karko Al Jassim as head of the mission, coaches Jamal Aliwi and Fadi Faham, athletes Mohammed Khaled Al Mohammed in athletics, and physical strength athletes Noura Badour and Fatima Al Hassan.

Bodour and Al-Hassan qualified for Paralympic Tokyo after their participation was confirmed in view of their results in the qualifying international tournaments and their achievement of qualification conditions, noting that Bodour won the bronze in the World Championships in Kazakhstan in 2019 and Al-Hassan previously won the silver medal in the Asian Paralympic Games in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta In 2018, Muhammad Khaled Al-Mohammed qualified after achieving a silver medal in the push-button competition at the World Championships held in Dubai.
