Geretsrieder, who have to go to the town hall, need an appointment in advance.

To make the process easier, there is now a digital registration system.

Geretsried - When visiting a restaurant, cinema or doctor, booking an appointment online is already common practice. This service is now also working in the Geretsried town hall. A new "appointment management system" from the Hamburg-based company FrontDesk ensures that citizens can register with the residents' registration office with one click on their PC or smartphone, for example to have a new passport issued. Mayor Michael Müller, Yvonne Bräuning from the citizen service department, Thomas Habermann from the information technology department and Jan Behrenbruch from FrontDesk presented the system on Wednesday.

In the system, citizens choose the day and time that suits them from a list of suggestions. This avoids long waiting times. At the same time, town hall customers find out in advance what to bring. In the passport example, this would be a photo and the expired document. A new terminal in the foyer of the town hall also enables quick registration on site. The technology also means that handwritten completion of a visit form, which was previously necessary for corona-related data collection, will no longer be necessary.

The digital appointment arrangement was initiated by the lockdown, explained Müller.

Since Corona, it is well known that not everyone can spontaneously march into the town hall with their concerns.

But the change is also a step towards the future for Müller.

Soon it will be possible to do things like registering and de-registering a dog for the dog tax conveniently online from home or on the go - "a great added value for our citizens", as the town hall chief said.

Initially for citizen service, other departments are to follow

The appointment management system will initially only be launched for the important and frequently frequented areas of the city's citizen service.

These include, among other things, the passport and registration system, the registry office, the lost property office and the trade office.

Gradually, other departments such as the building authority are to follow.

Registration at the terminal in the foyer is self-explanatory with simple information and a few clicks, said Thomas Habermann.

Michael Müller did the practical test: After entering his data and his request, the visitor receives a slip of paper with the time of his appointment.

When it is his turn, his time is shown on a large display in the waiting area, which is also used for other information like in the subway.

Habermann and Müller admitted that citizens had to get used to the system first.

Elderly people might be able to help neighbors or grandchildren book online from home, suggested the mayor.

If you cannot find your way around the terminal in the entrance area - also because of a disability - the employees at the gate would be happy to help.

According to Müller's knowledge, the digital registration system is the first in the district.

According to Jan Behrenbruch, the FrontDesk company was the first in Bavaria to equip the city of Geretsried with its product.
