The European Heritage Days are held on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September.

The theme of this edition is "Heritage for all".

The underground heritage of Saint-Émilion

Saint-Émilion, popular for its viticulture, is above all a medieval city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An immersion of about 45 minutes allows the public to discover four monuments: the hermitage of Emilion, the Chapel of the Trinity and its medieval paintings, the catacombs as well as the underground church.

With its 38 meters long and 12 meters high, it hides from the eyes of visitors behind a Gothic portal, which only the guide can open.

The Lazaret cave in Nice

Located in the park of the villa La Côte, dating from the mid-19th century, the Lazaret cave has been open to the public since 2017. Listed as a historic monument in 1963, it is a prehistoric site of international scientific and cultural interest.

A visit to the cave is offered, where the main stages of Prehistory and the evolution of Man are discussed.

An introductory archaeological excavation workshop is also offered for children.

The 550 churches of the diocese open their doors in Lyon

Each church has its specificity, it is impossible not to find its happiness.

Maintenon castle

Madame de Maintenon, the wife of the Sun King, is honoring artistic crafts and heritage restoration trades in her castle this year. After a stroll through the French-style gardens designed by Le Nôtre, it is possible to meet and discuss with the women and men who put their talent at the service of History by working for the restoration of the movable heritage and its backup. Four workshops are given for adults: crush on the Chinese wallpapers of the 19th century, architectural restoration of the castle, 500 years of the Saint-Nicolas church, the art of stained glass. For children, stained glass workshops in tissue paper are specially designed for children.

Seeing the eye of the painter Claude Monet and discovering the places that inspired him is what this 5 km hiking tour offers.

The Chapel at Clairefontaine

Created in part of a former cloister of Dominican sisters, the Chapel is today a center of contemporary art. It includes exhibition and performance halls, an art book documentation center and a park of modern and contemporary sculptures. On the occasion of Heritage Days, a life-size Gallic festival is taking place in Clairefontaine. In addition, there is a conference on the archaeological site of rue du Jeu de Paume, archaeological mediation workshops and woolen pouch weaving, a forging demonstration with the “Forge Carnutes” collective. The castle of Auvers sur Oise

Exceptionally, the cultural route is free for heritage days. The opportunity to discover the castle of Auvers sur Oise located in the heart of Vexin, in a green setting. Built around 1635 by Zanobi Lioni, an Italian financier close to Marie de Médicis, the building is a unique place, combining heritage and perspective on the valley, a landscape that has inspired many Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters: Daubigny, Pissarro, Cézanne and even Van Gogh. The Orient-Express at Lille station

In this European year of rail, heritage days have put the rail sector in the spotlight.

Lille-Flandres station will host the legendary Orient-Express train throughout the weekend.

Passed down to posterity from the pen of Agatha Christie and Ernest Hemingway, the luxury train that once linked Paris to Istanbul will be visited on September 18 and 19 in Lille station.

Launched in 1883, it experienced several periods of prosperity and decline, marked by the various wars which set in its path.

The opportunity to immerse yourself in this train with a unique history, a common thread in the great history of the 20th century.

The Brienne canal in the spotlight in Toulouse

In Toulouse, the Garonne is abandoned this year in favor of the Brienne canal and its lock, which joins the river which is in the spotlight.

900 years of Montferrand

Montferrand, its Michelin factories and its homonymous rugby stadium, has in its streets many significant episodes linked to the neighboring town, Clermont-Ferrand.

Heritage days are an opportunity to celebrate the neighborhood's 900 years, through a series of events.

For example, the museum of architecture gives an appointment on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a visit of the Montferrand of the last century.

The next day, a bike ride is organized at 9:30 a.m., before a musical break with the harmony orchestra, at 4 p.m. at the Place de la Rodade.
