The decision of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve the booster vaccine for those aged 65 and over and for at-risk populations, but not to give a sweeping recommendation to vaccinate citizens under that age, caused confusion in Israel, which was the first country to vaccinate its citizens.

First, the FDA's expert committee determined that a third dose of impulse was needed, after being convinced that there was a decrease in vaccine benefit. The situation in the United States is different from Israel in everything: the rate of immunization is lower, the proportion of the vaccinated population is smaller, varies from country to country, and stands at only 55%, while morbidity levels also vary. The spread of the disease in Israel is higher, and the Ministry of Health has not waited for the FDA at almost any stage in the management of the epidemic.

Like many countries, Israel also had to make decisions independently.

Thus, we were the first country to reach in just three months a situation where 40% of the total population was vaccinated and morbidity levels began to plummet.

Thus, we were also among the first to warn that the usefulness of the vaccine was declining.

When you store such a large amount of people in such a short time, you can notice changes quickly.

When you dive into the details, you realize that the United States is now doing what we did about two months ago, which means recommending a third vaccine to the entire population over the age of 65, to health care workers of all ages and, of course, to at-risk populations.

This is how it began in Israel as well, and only then did the age of those entitled to the vaccine decrease.

Israel undoubtedly leads the management of the epidemic in many ways, and as with the first and second vaccines, it seems that in a short time more and more countries will make the same decision.

This is precisely the reason why the decision of the Committee of Experts will not cause a change in the policy of the Ministry of Health, but it will probably cause greater hesitation among the public and perhaps even harm the pace of the vaccination campaign.

This is the thing that should worry us more than anything else.
