During their traditional meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministers of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council discussed a number of international issues, particularly the situation in Afghanistan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, during the meeting held yesterday with the participation of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the urgent need to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and the countries receiving Afghan refugees and not to allow the spread of terrorist threats and drugs throughout the region.
The statement indicated that during the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the inevitability of seeking collective responses to the challenges and threats of our time, based on the Charter of the United Nations and other standards of international law, and stressed that the permanent members of the Council are entrusted in this regard with a special responsibility before the entire international community.
Last Tuesday, the work of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly began in New York, with the participation of its 193 member states.
