A stranger stabbed a sleeping homeless man in the chest in Mönchengladbach.
The 51-year-old woke up on Sunday due to severe pain and noticed a bleeding wound in his chest, police and prosecutors reported on Monday.
A homicide squad started the investigation.
Mönchengladbach - The 51-year-old had stayed with two other homeless people in a house entrance opposite a shopping center in the center of Mönchengladbach.
The man was admitted to a hospital and was out of danger on Monday.
The police are now looking for witnesses who observed something suspicious on Sunday night.
