The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Silakovic the bilateral relations between the two countries and agreed to strengthen them in various political, economic and commercial fields.
Miqdad explained the suffering and challenges faced by the Syrians as a result of the Turkish and American occupation of parts of the Syrian territories and the support provided by Turkey to terrorist groups in northwest Syria, as well as the United States' support for separatist armed groups in its northeast.
In addition, Minister Miqdad congratulated the Serbian government on the successful organization of the high-level meeting on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement and expressed thanks to the Serbian people and leadership for their hospitality and organization.
In turn, the Serbian minister expressed his appreciation for Syria's participation in the meeting, as it was one of the 25 countries that participated in the founding movement's conference sixty years ago.
The Serbian minister affirmed his country's readiness to strengthen and develop relations between the two countries, pointing at the same time to the similarities between them in the sanctions imposed on the former Yugoslavia and what Syria is facing today.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Special Office Department, Dr. Ammar Awad, Chargé d'Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Belgrade, and Dean Hamdan from the Embassy.
