A California court sentenced real estate tycoon Robert Drest to life in prison tonight (Friday) for the murder of his girlfriend Susan Berman in 2000. Drest, 78, suffers from many medical problems and was confined to his wheelchair during the hearing, shaved and undressed. prison.

Durst, a millionaire whose grandfather was a founder of one of the largest real estate companies in New York, managed to evade the law for decades.

He was the main suspect in the disappearance of his wife Caitlin McCormack, who disappeared in New York in 1982.

However, he got into trouble after accidentally indicting himself in the 2015 documentary series The Jinx.

Berman's relatives urged Drest during the trial to reveal where he hid his wife's body, because that way he might get a chance at a certain redemption. "He needs to tell us where Kathy's body is so that her family will have a certain closing circle," said David Berman, Susan's cousin. Several relatives expressed some remorse on her behalf, after it was revealed at trial that she had helped Darst give a false alibi to his wife's disappearance.

The prosecution claimed that he murdered Berman because he feared that she would eventually turn him over to the authorities. Last month, a jury convicted Drest of murdering Berman, who was 55, while shooting her in the head at her home in Beverly Hills. Judge Mark Wyndham also denied the defense's request for a retrial, saying the evidence had been proven many times.

The trial took place six years after Drest participated in "Jinx", and after the interview he continued to carry the microphone and was heard saying to himself in the bathroom: "What the hell did I do? I killed everyone, of course."

Drest was only on trial for Berman's murder in California, but prosecutors claimed he murdered three people: his wife, Berman and a Texas neighbor who revealed his identity while evading authorities.

However, Drest wins from the murder in Texas even though he is more than the neighbor's body.
