Not only Austria owes a strong run on its gas stations to the German fuel prices.
The Czech Republic is also currently seeing an unusually high number of tank tourists.
Munich - If you want to fill up your tank in Germany at the moment, you have to pay a lot more money than a year ago.
Among other things, the CO2 tax and rising oil prices are driving up the cost of gasoline, diesel and the like.
As the ADAC announced, diesel is currently more expensive than ever.
On Sunday (October 17th) the average daily price was 1.555 euros per liter and thus just above the previous maximum price of 2012. This was then 1.554 euros.
And gasoline prices are also approaching more and more new highs.
Tank tourism: so much can be saved in the Czech Republic
In order to save money, many German drivers are fleeing and driving to neighboring countries, where fuel is still significantly cheaper.
This also includes the Czech Republic.
Tank tourism is booming there.
Last weekend, queues formed at Czech gas stations near the border.
Many German drivers went on a tank excursion to the neighboring country.
But is it really worth it?
Last week, the average price for Super, according to the German Automobile Club, was 1.70 euros.
In the Czech Republic, however, at only 1.39 euros.
So if you fill up the tank here and maybe even fill one or the other canister, you can save a lot.
Take the VW Passat, for example: if the tank is 66 liters, refueling across the border is a good 20 euros cheaper.
Even if you calculate it against a journey of 20 kilometers, it's worth it. So it's no wonder that many Germans accept waiting times of up to 40 minutes in front of the petrol pumps.
