Stegen - With the Corona relief, the desire for a Ammersee steamboat trip grew, especially in the months of September up to the finale on October 17th.

As Michael Grießer, Managing Director of Bayerische Seenschifffahrt, noted with satisfaction, there were more passengers in recent weeks than at the 2019 corona-free season finale.

The start of the season on May 10, 2021 was still marked by the corona pandemic. “Nevertheless, with more than 191,000 passengers in 2021, we were able to achieve an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the previous year,” says Michael Grießer happily. Bit by bit, something normal is returning, which can be seen in the 18 charter trips in addition to the regular services. The number of guests on the charters was still far below the level of 2019, as it was mostly smaller events.

Overall, according to Michael Grießer, the season went without major incidents and the majority of passengers would have shown understanding for the measures prescribed due to Corona.

For some mask opponents, however, the police had to be called because they stubbornly refused to use the mask and did not want to go on board.

The remaining problems were homemade, as in all years: stand-up paddlers who got too close to the ships or stubborn swimmers who hindered the mooring maneuvers.

In the coming months, the time at the Stegen shipyard will be used for maintenance and cosmetic repairs.

After five years of operation, the first land inspection in the dry dock by the TÜV is due for the motor ship MS Utting in spring 2022.

Major maintenance measures are only necessary in Riederau for the steam piers.

Michael Grießer hopes that at the start of the next season on the Easter weekend from April 14, 2022, normality will return to normal after the two atypical years and that there will be as little or no more corona restrictions as possible.
