Mohamed Noor, 36, was sentenced in 2019 for murder without premeditation and manslaughter for the death in 2017 of Justine Damond.

The case shocked Minneapolis and angered the victim's home country.

The ex-policeman was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison on the first count but that sentence was overturned last month by the Minnesota Supreme Court.

57 months in prison

On Thursday, Hennepin County judge Kathryn Quaintance sentenced Mohamed Noor to 57 months in prison (four years and nine months) for manslaughter, with a credit of 908 days already spent in custody.

Justine Damond, a 40-year-old yoga teacher with Australian and American nationalities, suffered abdominal injuries when Mohamed Noor and his partner responded to a nighttime call she made to report a possible sexual assault in an alley near from home.

She died on the spot.

The judge said that Mohamed Noor, seated on the passenger side, had fired by placing his weapon "in

During his trial, Mohamed Noor said he was afraid of an ambush and shot Justine Damond to protect his partner.

But for prosecutors, his shooting was against the rules of police training.
