The outgoing North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) has called on the NRW CDU to unite in the upcoming state election campaign.
Under his party leadership, the NRW CDU had overcome its long-standing quarrels since 2012, Laschet said on Saturday at the state party conference in Bielefeld.
"The NRW-CDU must never again be at odds."
Bielefeld - The party must continue to stand together as in the past few days.
There are state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia on May 15, 2022.
In his last speech as party leader, Laschet warned the CDU against falling into populism or resentment.
The core of the CDU's brand, both in the federal government and in the state, also included the “social heart” and the “view of the common people”.
In the federal election, however, the CDU lost voters to the SPD because it was no longer noticeable that the Christian Democrats were taking the social issue seriously.
