China has reiterated its strong opposition to the US-Taiwanese discussions on Taiwan's participation in the UN activities.
A US-Taiwan virtual forum was held recently, in which participants from the US State Department and from the Taiwan authorities discussed the possibility of supporting the latter's ability to participate effectively in the United Nations.
The Chinese news agency, Xinhua, quoted the Chinese Embassy in Washington as saying in a statement, commenting on this forum, that the Chinese side is deeply concerned and strongly opposes the US side's behavior and has lodged a solemn protest in this regard.
The statement added that the United Nations is an international organization comprising sovereign states. Resolution 2758 adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1971 finally resolved the issue of the representation of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations in the political, legal and procedural fields. The system, agencies and the United Nations Secretariat should abide by the China principle One and Resolution No. 2758 when dealing with Taiwan-related affairs.
The embassy noted that a large number of UN member states, including the United States, recognize that there is only one China in the world, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of their territory, and that the Taiwan region's participation in the activities of international organizations should be carried out according to the one-China principle.
The statement referred to the Taiwan authorities' attempt to expand the so-called "international space" by crowding in foreign powers with the aim of expanding the possibility of "Taiwan independence" and separatism, which time will prove to be a failure.
The embassy called on the United States to abide by the one-China principle and the terms of the three Sino-US joint communiques, abide by Resolution 2758, stop official contact with Taiwan, refrain from making irresponsible statements and sending wrong signals to the so-called "independence forces" of Taiwan, and from actions that undermine Sino-US relations and harm peace. and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
