It starts again.
After a year and a half break, tourists can fly back to the USA.
Demand is high and the airlines are hoping for a catch-up effect.
Munich
- Flight LH 460 is fully booked: The first Lufthansa flight to Miami is scheduled to take off at 12:05 on Monday (November 8th).
The resumption of long-haul connections to Florida is something special for Lufthansa.
In addition to the head of Lufthansa at the Munich location, Stefan Kreuzpaintner, and airport manager Jost Lammers, the new Munich US consul general Timothy Liston also wants to be at the airport when the plane starts.
After the entry stop to the USA was lifted: First flights take off from Munich
Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the USA in particular had rigorously cut flight connections from Europe.
While the EU continued to let US Americans on the continent, provided they had been vaccinated, tested or recovered, in fact only US citizens were allowed to enter the US by plane.
Exceptions were only made for people who could present a kind of special visa (“National Interest Exception”), which of course was difficult to get hold of.
44 flights a week - individual destinations "better booked than before the pandemic"
After the entry stop has been lifted from today, the lucrative US business of the airlines should now quickly pick up speed again. In November alone Lufthansa is planning 44 flights a week to the USA to a total of ten destinations. Some of the destinations are served daily, the long-term destination Miami is initially on the flight schedule three times a week. The weekly frequency of US flights is to be increased to 50 in December. The competition from United Airlines starts again to four destinations (Chicago, Newark, San Francisco and Washington).
The demand is there, explains Lufthansa press spokeswoman Bettina Rittberger. After the USA announced the lifting of the de facto entry ban in October, Lufthansa’s US business increased by 30 percent. Individual destinations, such as Chicago, are even “better booked than before the pandemic”. Los Angeles, Boston and New York are also in high demand. Lufthansa also notices that travelers have saved on their trip to the USA from their booking behavior. The so-called premium economy class - an upgrade compared to the conventional economy - is in particularly high demand. There are wider seats, a little more space and more service.
Of course, the corona rules are relatively rigorous.
Only double-vaccinated passengers are allowed to enter the country (only at Johnson & Johnson the single spade is enough).
All passengers also need a negative Covid 19 test (PCR, antigen or verified self-test).
This must not be older than 72 hours.
