The future of New Caledonia will play out well on December 12

The executive maintains the date of the decisive referendum, against the advice of the separatists who will not recognize the results.

Requests for postponement and calls for a boycott will not have been enough.

By maintaining the third and final referendum on the independence of New Caledonia for December 12, the government refused to give in to the separatists.

But the showdown is not over: at the origin of the demand for the ballot, members of the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS) announced that they will challenge the results.

While the vote was to end a process of decolonization of more than thirty years, this showdown gives rise to fear of an interminable soap opera.
