Not every year: Many Christmas markets in the district are canceled

Drink a cup of mulled wine in good company at the stand of the Christmas market and enjoy the Advent atmosphere with Christmas music - the district citizens can probably only dream of that this year too. Drink a cup of mulled wine in good company at the stand of the Christmas market and enjoy the Advent atmosphere with Christmas music - the district citizens can probably only dream of that this year too. Because as rapidly as the number of Corona infected people in the district is increasing, the cancellations from communities and organizers regarding their planned Advent events are now fluttering into the editorial office.

District - "Even if it is very painful and disappointing for us, the municipal administration and I have now decided together to cancel all of our community events scheduled until Christmas," says Unterföhring's mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer (PWU).

The Christmas dinner and tribute to the association's board members also fall victim to the tense situation, as do all the Christmas parties, the Christmas market and the ice cream magic at the community center.

“It's just not the time for it,” says Kemmelmeyer with regret.

Other actions planned for Advent

Like the head of the town hall in Unterföhringen, many mayors in the district assess the situation. The markets in Putzbrunn and Hohenbrunn have meanwhile also been canceled. As a precaution, the Pullach tradespeople have deleted the traditional booth magic on Kirchplatz from their calendar, and in Schäftlarn there will be no Christmas market in the Prälatenstadl on the second weekend of Advent this year either.

As in 2020, the parishes in Aschheim will forego the Aschheim Advent.

Instead, they will "think about some actions again and try to give the Advent season a different, but still special face", announce Pastor Adrian Zessin from the Aschheim-Feldkirchen Parish Association and Torsten Bader, pastor of the evangelical parish of Feldkirchen and Aschheim, on the Aschheim Advent website.

The community of Haar has postponed the planned medieval Christmas market to 2022, but currently wants to hold on to the traditional market with local associations and institutions on December 4th on Kirchplatz.

Still hope for Argeter village Christmas

Heinrich Reichel from the Argeter Village Christmas Association also plays for a while. He does not want to cancel the event, which is known beyond the municipal boundaries. “Our traffic lights are still green, but they tend to be yellow,” he says. Next week, the association's board wants to sit down and discuss again. The fact is, however, that the current decree of the state government does not provide for a ban on the Christmas market, emphasizes Reichel. Since none of the exhibitors has withdrawn so far, Reichel is cautiously optimistic about the Argeter Village Christmas. "As long as the hurdles don't get too high, we want to go through with it," says the organizer. Especially since you can react relatively flexibly to the situation. "We can cancel the village Christmas up to a week in advance," says Reichel.

Even the two smallest communities in the district, Baierbrunn and Straßlach-Dingharting, are sticking to the plans for the time being.

According to Mayor Patrick Ott, Baierbrunn wants to extend the magic of the booth around the town hall into Bahnhofstrasse in order to equalize the flow of visitors and to avoid any jostling.

"Then there will be no bottle necks at all," he said.

Controls at the entrance

This is the way people want to go in Grünwald.

The Advent market stalls should not only be in front of the town hall, but for the first time also in Luitpoldweg, as Thomas Lindbüchl from the Association of Friends of Grünwald tells us.

He assumes that the 2G rule will apply to the Christmas markets in Bavaria.

"Then we'll just fence the dining area and check the entrance," he says.

People in other communities are not that optimistic.

Municipalities such as Garching, Feldkirchen and Unterschleißheim are sticking to the planned Christmas market dates.

In the end, however, it is assumed in some town halls that the Bavarian state government will also pull the emergency brake on the topic of Christmas markets in the coming days.

Market organizer Thomas Lindbüchl hopes for a clear announcement by the end of next week.

Because then the prime ministers met with the federal government for another corona crisis conference.

Lindbüchl: “Our deadline is November 24th.

Then I have to order the goods for the Advent market at the latest. "
