Hapoel Eilat was eliminated tonight (Wednesday) from the European Cup after an 89:83 loss to Polish Sopot in the direct battle for promotion to the quarterfinals in Begin Hall.
Eilat, which could have lost by up to 3 points, missed the big opportunity, and it finishes its way in third place in the early house when the Poles are at their expense.
Eilat came back from a lag of 13 in the first quarter and the game became close until the end.
The Southerners still led 80:81 two minutes to the end, but then the bad finish came and the guest achieved the victory by the required margin.
The two new foreigners, Christian Doolittle and Alex Hamilton, made their debut in Eilat.
Romulo White and Justin Patton with 16 points each led the scenes.
