At the home of Andrés Mendoza, 72, 4,000 human remains were found: "I know one regrets it, but too late, things have already happened," he said, "if you were a thief, you were a kidnapper, you killed, well , one already did. "

Andrés Mendoza, known as the femicide of Atizapán, has shown no regret in his first statements from prison after being arrested in May on charges of the murder of at least 19 women in the suburbs of Mexico City.

"I know that one regrets it, but too late, things have already happened. [...] If you were a thief, you were a kidnapper, you killed, well,

one already did,

" he said from the Barrientos prison, in Tlalnepantla , a population of the State of Mexico.

"The things that have already been done, you have to put up with it,

nothing is remedied anymore

," added the 72-year-old man.

Mendoza's arrest came as a result of discoveries made by Bruno Portilla, who was searching for his missing wife, Reyna González, 34.

In the house of the femicide, he found his identity card, which allowed him to sound the alarm.

The authorities later found his dismembered remains in the basement of the house.

"At no time did he have a sentimental relationship [with him]. Because he was an old man, it was a pity for him and he was going to visit," Portilla said on May 20 when the judge ordered the prosecution of Mendoza.

The excavations made it possible to locate almost 4,000 human remains.

During the inspection of the house, dozens of identifications of women, bags, shoes and other types of clothing were also found.

The prosecution also reported the discovery of

53 video recordings, 29 snapshots, 44 medium photos, 17 children, and one passport size.

Another of the victims identified through forensic analysis was Flor Mejía, whose aunt, Silvia Mejía, had been looking for her for months.

"I dreamed it. I don't deny it, I fell into depression," Mejía told Noticias Telemundo about what the disappearance of his niece meant.

Mendoza faces a sentence ranging from 70 years in prison to life imprisonment.

While awaiting his sentence, he remains isolated due to the danger of being attacked by other prisoners.
