Is a Covid-19 infection equivalent to a dose of vaccine to obtain the health pass?

2021-11-26T16:59:03.336Z

VERIFICATION - The vaccination booster is open from Saturday to all adults, and this from five months after the last dose received, against six so far. This new injection will condition the holding of the health pass in mid-January.

THE QUESTION.

To cope with the new epidemic wave which has progressed dramatically in recent days, Olivier Véran announced on Thursday a series of measures, including the extension of the third dose of vaccine, until then reserved for people at risk, to any the adult population.

For a majority of the population, this booster dose should therefore be injected 5 months after the second dose.

What about people who were infected before the injection of a dose of vaccine, or people who had Covid between or after their two doses?

Let's check.

On November 19, the High Authority for Health recommended "

a single dose after infection

", adding that "

when one has been infected

", there is "

no need for a reminder - at this stage

". The administration of this single dose was decided at the start of the vaccination campaign, in February 2021. This Thursday, Olivier Véran indicated that this dose alone was no longer sufficient for people who contracted the disease after having received a dose, going against the recommendations of the medical authority. Concretely, it will be necessary for the whole adult population, and in any case, to receive a booster dose, 5 months after the dose or the previous contamination.

If a person has had Covid-19 and then received a dose of the vaccine, they will need to take steps to receive the booster dose five months later.

If Covid-19 was contracted between the two doses (at least 15 days after the first dose), a booster dose should also be received 5 months after the second dose.

So far, an infection corresponds to a dose if the person concerned has not been infected within 15 days after receiving their first dose.

On the other hand, if a person has caught Covid-19 but has also received their two doses of vaccines, before or after, they will still need to receive a third dose of the vaccine.

A Covid infection does not therefore necessarily correspond to a dose of vaccine.

Thus, from January 15, a complete vaccination schedule synonymous with a valid health pass will require receiving a booster dose, in all cases and for the entire adult population.

For those over 60, the health pass will take this third dose into account from December 15.

To date, only 8.6% of the population in France has received an additional booster dose.
