The language development association MiBiKids was founded in 2010 by migrants for migrants.

Chairman Samuel Fosso looks back on this success story.

District

- “It started with a kindergarten group for four children.

Interest increased quickly, so in 2011 there were already 71 children and the offer was expanded to include elementary school groups.

In 2012, in addition to Freising, Neufahrn was added as a course location.

In addition, an experienced teacher for German as a second language (DAZ) was recruited who started the 'Mama lernt Deutsch' group as a new offer.

In the house of the clubs

The association has been renting a room in the Freising House of Associations since 2013 and one year later hired a full-time employee to support the volunteers.

In the same year, the association also took second place in the Integration Prize of the Government of Upper Bavaria.

The expansion

Over the years MiBiKids eV grew steadily and additional locations were added: Moosburg (2014), Nandlstadt and Hörgertshausen (2017) and finally Hallbergmoos (2018). The range of courses has also been expanded. In 2015, intensive holiday courses for newcomers were added for the first time. With this, the association responded to the increased need from refugees, who made up a significant proportion (around 20 percent) of the MiBiKids participants in 2016 in particular. In addition, the association was recognized in September 2016 as a provider of free youth welfare. The Au location finally started in autumn 2021 to support the children in the northern district. From 2017, the proportion of newcomer groups (language beginners) decreased again, which was also due to the fact that the children could be easily integrated into normal groups. The number of participants had in the meantime settled at around 200 to 250 over the years. In 2019, the association submitted an application to the district office to persuade the district to participate financially in the integration support measures. After a lengthy and difficult debate, this was unfortunately finally rejected in September 2020.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

According to the judgment, language promotion is not part of youth welfare work and therefore not eligible for funding by the district office.

The year 2020, our tenth anniversary, was also shaped in particular by the corona pandemic.

This presented the association with great challenges, as all courses had to be canceled from one day to the next.

MiBiKids started the school year 2020/21 again with over 180 participants.

Since October 2021, the integration support measures of MiBiKids for the current school year 2021/22 have successfully started with 190 children as face-to-face classes.

The appeal for donations

In autumn 2021, we launched a large appeal for donations in the district in order to finance our annual budget of over 50,000 euros.

We are still looking for additional group leaders for the weekly German course at all locations.

On request, MiBiKids will pay an expense allowance for the voluntary work with the children. "

The balance

Chairman Samuel Fosso sums up: “Since the association was founded in 2010, MiBiKids has made a valuable contribution to educational opportunities and educational success for children regardless of social status, skin color, religion or language.

Many thanks to the entire MiBiKids team and all donors.

The association would not be so successful without your help. "
