The Indian Air Force announced today that a military helicopter carrying the Chief of Staff and other officials has crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
The Xinhua news agency quoted the Air Force as saying in a brief statement that "a Mi-71V5 helicopter with Indian Chief of Staff General Bipin Rawat and other officials on board was involved in an accident near Kunur in the Nilgiris district, about 538 kilometers southwest of Chennai, the capital of Tamil". They called what led to the crash, without giving any further details about injuries or casualties.
The cause of the helicopter crash is not yet known, while rescue teams are continuing their work at the site of the accident.
