The Uruguayan soccer team announced this Tuesday the hiring of Diego Alonso, who assumes as new technical director after the dismissal of Óscar Washington Tabárez, which put an end to a 15-year process.
Alonso, 46, will take the reins of Uruguay seeking to take them to qualifying positions for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Right now, the two-time world champion team is seventh in the Conmebol table.
Peru, which is fifth, for now qualifies for the playoffs, while Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia for now go directly to the World Cup.
