The Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health (Inciensa) reported this Sunday the first case of the omicron variant in Costa Rica, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement.

The authorities indicated that it is a child under 8 years old, who was positive in a test carried out in a private hospital after presenting fever, body aches and general malaise.

The boy is currently stable and in isolation at his residence in the province of San José, according to the statement.

Inciensa reported that the minor was in contact with positive cases in his family, but did not specify if they are also infected with the new variant.

What they did detail is that in principle "the information of a family trip history is handled the first week of December to the United States."
