The top US infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci, has warned that there is still a risk of increased hospitalizations due to the large number of coronavirus infections, even as preliminary data indicates that the mutant omicron is less dangerous.
"We are definitely in the midst of a very sharp rise in cases," Fauci said in an interview with CNN, describing the escalating infection rate as "unprecedented."
Fauci explained that the curve of injuries witnessed a nearly vertical rise.
Fauci again appealed to parents to vaccinate their children, wear masks, and carry out examinations if necessary.
The United States, like other countries, is trying to find a balance that protects public health without harming the economy and key services such as police and air travel.
